Dismaland

An ad for Banksy’s Bemusement Park in the U.K. It’s a postmodern despair theme park. I love that they sell “I am an imbecile” balloons for kids to carry around.

As for the ad, it’s not bad; they could have enhanced the ennui. The product is a sophisticated offering; don’t try too hard. We would have gone with ‘overrated’ as the tag line.

Burger Wars

Americans have always been more comfortable with comparative advertising. A new slant on this is the offer Burger King just made to McDonalds via an Open Letter. In support of Peace Day (“who will you make peace with?”), Burger King proposed a McWhopper collaboration.

McDonalds said thanks anyway, but happy to talk, and signed off, “P.S. A simple phone call will do next time”.

So Burger King have gone again, seeking to create a Peace Burger with other chains who expressed interest in the concept.

All generating substantial free media coverage for Burger King and Peace Day. Hoping some long term good comes of it.

How to get your own way

So some guy in Cesena, Italy decides he’d like the Foo Fighters to play in his home town. He uses social media to get some locals together and they play a tribute song to the band. Here’s how it worked out:

Approaching 15 million hits.

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters responded on Twitter: See you soon, Cesena.

Radio Station for your Dog

Is your dog home alone while you’re reading this? It’s heart-breaking, right?

K9FM is a radio station in New Zealand especially programmed to keep your dog company. IKR: your dog is not in New Zealand and they don’t show up on Nielsen.

Anyway. It’s an award-winning use of radio and earned a Black Pencil at D&AD. You’re right again: they don’t use pencils on radio.

Colenso BBDO have geo-restricted the explanatory video, so we can’t embed it for your convenience. However, thanks to the wonders of the Internet …
